Franciscan Church
Franciscan Church is a gem of Gothic architecture located in the Kraków city centre at Plac Wszystkich Świętych 5. This monastic church is open for tourists.
Franciscan Church belongs the Archdiocese of Kraków, which head is located right across the street and is operated by the Order of Friars Minor Conventual.
The church was initially constructed in 13th century with many expansions and restorations, has a tower standing 25 tall and is built in Gothic style enriched with Baroque and Neo-Gothic elements.
The Franciscan Church building features cloisters painted with Gothic frescoes from 15th-century and you can also find a remarkable polychrome and stained glass windows inside created by the renowned Polish artist Stanisław Wyspiański. Most notable works of Wyspiański you can find there are depictions of St. Francis and Blessed Salomea known as the work "God the Father – Let it be".
In fact, you can see the Stanisław Wyspiański’s influence throughout the church: floral and plant motifs are embellishing the presbytery and the stained glass windows featuring religious figures are to be found everywhere inside the church.
While visiting the church make sure to also visit the following chapels inside: Chapel of Blessed Salomea, Chapel of the Passion of Christ and Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows known for the icon of Our Lady of Sorrows, regarded as the "Patroness of Kraków."
As mentioned before, the Franciscan Church is easily accessed while taking a stroll in Kraków Old Town, especially if you're in the area of Trakt Królewski or Planty Park and it's very close to other significant landmarks.
