Corpus Christi Church (Basilica) is a gothic church located in the heart of Kazimierz right in the centre of this vibrant neighbourhood, next to the Wolnica Square (Plac Wolnica), so it's definitively worth a visit during your stroll through the Old Jewish Quarter.

This monumental building is listed as a heritage site by the National Heritage Institute in Poland and it's built in gothic style. Here Roman Catholic messes are still actively held so make sure to follow the guidelines while entering the church and don't disturb any ongoing service.

The foundation of the church was initiated around year 1340 by the King Casimir III the Great and its consecration tool place in 1401. Formerly being a mere church, its status has been elevated to that of minor basilica by Pope John Paul II in 2005.

Key elements of the Corpus Christi Church are presbytery, sacristy, nave and a magnificent tower standing at 70 metres high.

What's most important for visitors is that the surrounding complex includes a convent of the Canons Regular, which is connected with the church building via an arched passage, that feature an enormous garden (not accessible for tourists) and a historic cemetery originally featuring representations of the Passion (Garden of Gethsemane, Mount of Olives, Golgotha).

There's also a large garden surrounding the church with benches serving as a retread from the bubbly and noisy Kazimierz.
